Gregory Porter Jacksonville Concert reviews
Mary Poppins was fabulous!
The moveable Victorian house was magnificent in the staging, along with the "enormous" bank and how they set up the different scenes. The attention to the smallest detail in the gorgeous costumes was remarkable. Perfect was Laura Michelle Kelly, singing with such strength and confidence, which showed in how smoothly the musical numbers flowed. We were somewhat closer than our seats near the sound booth, and that location provided a limited view of her when she would "fly" or when Bert was "walking on the walls, etc." The statue portion of the show was not really liked by us. Some way to incorporate the horse race from the movie and also the laughing uncle scenes from the movie was wished for. Such a fabulous job was done by Christian Borle with his British accent and his musical numbers. "Step in Time" is still being sung by us 3 days later! Valerie Boyle as Mrs. Brill, I especially liked her- very convincing and very funny! A great job opposite Mrs. Brill was done by Mark Price as Robertson Ay, but having a similar set up as the movie with the cook and housekeeper would have been better, I think. Jeff Binder and Rebecca Luker did a marvelous job. We really enjoyed the show and have already recommended it to many family and friends who live all over the country. Wonderful memories.
